I have a 2007 mustang (V6) with 222,222. With an auto trans. My check oil light when come on when I am stoped or slowing down. But when I am up over 20mph it will turn off. Also when I am in park, it will sometimes turn off without me doing anything. I checked my oil and it is at the correct level. What do you think this is ?
Sounds like your oil pump is going out or you have a faulty pressure sensor. The pump is engine RPM driven and pumps faster when the engine is revving up. When the RPMs are up, the worn pump is pumping enough oil to keep the pressure up, but idling it isn't. Do you hear metallic ticking or pinging noises when it comes on? That would be a dead giveaway that your oil pump is failing.
