I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot Automatic Sport 2.4 P1607 code.

That code usually indicates internal failure of your PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and it also means stop driving immediately. You might want to check your electrical system for voltage problems that may be causing the PCM to go funny in the head.
