Hi scotty i need an advice, i have a honda civic si ishift 1.4 year 2010 with 103,000 km on the clock, i lost communication with the TCM and as you know the gearbox is crap. Actually my car keep on pin and knock all the way and i feel like a decrease in power. People said that better change the complete engine or gearbox! Well what engine can fit in the MK8 FK1? Can i keep the L13Z1 engine and insert a manual transmission gearbox on it or i will have to swap the complete engine. If i need to swap engine which engine can i insert in it?
Thanks in advance.
Depends on your time, money and experience. Saw a guy with a 1998 Volvo 240 with a v8 benz engine. Soooooo what you looking at, what's your budget, ya gonna do it yourself?
I will pay a professional to do the job but i do need to know what engine could fit the Honda Civic 2010 1.4 FK1.
The ishift is like a clock bomb one day or another it will fail in a sudden. Better i swap the whole engine with gearbox and ecu.
Again, it really REALLY depends on what you are looking at. Since it will be done at a shop expect the cost to add at least an extra 5-8k for the build USD, even higher if they need to start cutting a 3rd pedal (and not to mention even more for a different engine fabrication cost as well as well as that for your manual option.) So In this regard, is it not easier to get another econo-box? Build cost would be like 15-20k since you are not doing work yourself.
If you were an aspiring mechanic, or even if this was your project car not your daily, then it would be around 10k and could probably get whatever you want with that budget. But since it's not, again I would personally recommend against it. Because of the fact that you don't even know what fits. It's not exactly a Lego set, with multiple options that you can just pick and choose from, anything will quote on quote "fit" if you want to make it fit.
So again I ask, if you are willing to put in the money, what are you looking for? Have you searched Honda forms for people who have completed a build to know what you are up against? And after looking at your comment at modman, you drive a bit so would it not be better to shelf this car and get another if the estimate is gonna be 15-20k? K-swaps are becoming increasingly popular and by that metric alone more expensive as well.
I would recommend completely against trying to change the auto to a manual, especially if you are doing it yourself. As for a replacement motor, well....it all depends on your budget and if you want a DIY job or a professional to do it.
I was thinking of a K20 engine but going to work with it driving about 135 km daily will not be cost efficient on fuel consumption. Really need an advice which engine can fit on the MK8 FK1 year 2010.
