Can someone explain what these two things are, and mean?
VVT/ varible valve timing. I've run across this but don't have a clue.
Interfearance Engine. Interferring with what?
Thank You
An interference engine means that if the timing belt breaks the pistons will collide with the valves where on a non interference engine if the timing belt breaks the pistons will not collide with the valves. Varitable valve timing means that the engine is able to constantly alter the timing of the valve lift.
thanks for that, it occurs to me that these terms and others should be part of the site for all to see
Interference engines self destruct, while non-interference just stop working without self destructing.
It would be literally impossible to list all of the acronyms used by mechanics. If you see one you don't know, just ask as you did here. Someone will be happy to explain it to you. 🙂
