Hi, i recently posted a question about my 18' sportage lx awd 2.4L GDI with about 68k miles feeling like it almost loses power when starting. The key is turned to the ignition position, the engine rumbles/shakes for LITERALLY a split second (immediately prior to this shaking is when it feels like there is a loss of power) and then it starts/turnsover. This does not happen every single time i start the car, it is rather intermittent (maybe 1 or 2 out of every 10 times?) there is no rough idle and the car has NOT once failed to start, but it is a rather unsettling feeling when this occurs. Eveything operates perfectly once the car is on and running.
I originally thought this was only occuring when the AC was in the on position and maybe that it was a faulty AC compressor valve but after about a week of consistently starting the car with the AC OFF, the problem now persists.
Maintenence is always done regularly with quality parts. some recent items are:
- A new duralast gold battery was installed a few weeks ago, so i know it is not that.
- All 4 sparkplugs were also replaced about a month ago with NGK iridium plugs.
- new air filter when the sprak plugs were changed
- Oil/filter change 3 weeks ago
- Car's first Fuel injection system cleaning 3 weeks ago

Try this whenever you want to start the car: Turn the key to the ON position without starting the car, when the fuel pump noise stopped, turn the key back to the off position. Now, start the car and see if you still have the issue.
Thanks, I will give this a try later today. difficulty is that the issue is hit or miss and never know when it will occur when starting. but i gues i can try this on the next dozen startups or so, and if issue does not occurr then i'll know i am onto something. thanks!

4 starts so far using your suggestion, so far so good... going to continue through Friday/Saturday to see if it occurs. will provide another update then. thanks again for the help

So far over 8 starts using your suggestion of cycling the key, I have yet to experience a rough start

So I don’t think the fuel pump itself is bad..so I’m not sure what could have been causing my problem
You said the battery was new but I would suggest to load test the battery and alternator.

Battery and alternator tested and both normal. Checked for loose connections etc… might take it to my mechanic to give it a thorough check
