I want a 2003 Maxima for an everyday driver. Is a 17 year old car too old to buy even if I got it at low mileage? And what amount of mileage would be too much at that age?

I think it's going to depend more on the condition than the actual age of the car. As Scotty always says, have a mechanic check it out first before buying it. Personally I would say 2003 isn't that old and it could be a decent car but the condition (mechanical and physical) are going to be more important than age itself IMO. I will say that many newer cars do have additional safety features and advancements in metals to make them stronger (so safer cars) and on a 17 year old car there's also the concern about whether the airbag system work or not.
