I recently bought a Dodge Ram Quad cab 5.7 L hemi 1500-2008. When I purchased it, the mechanic told me I would need to change the wheel hub assembly, is this something I can do at home? I watched a couple of videos, it looks fairly straightforward. I noticed in one video the guy takes the axle right out the CV joint to get the old part out, and the new part in? Is this completely necessary? Thanks, Matt
the procedure is fairly straightforward, but things like rust can make it a bit of a PITA. soak the fasteners with penetrating lube ahead of time. Make sure you've get all the tools, such as jumbo socket for axle nut.
You shouldn't need to remove the entire axle from the vehicle. However, if your axle seals are seeping, it might be a good time to change those.
