I have an 06 nissan frontier 4.0 v6 198k miles. My transmission is acting weird. I just spent 3k on a tcm this week now my check engine light is back. I am contacting the shop tomorrow about it tomorrow they warranty their work. I'm just wondering if it's worth fixing anymore. I like the truck I've had it 10 years I just don't know where the line is of being worth fixing. Po 744 is the code btw
Take it back to the shop. The shop should fix it and stand behind their work. That RE5R05A transmission was used by Nissan in many vehicles. It's known for having transmission oil cooler failures in the radiator of certain vehicles (caused a lawsuit too). The coolant mixes with the transmission fluid and both the radiator and transmission are contaminated.
A different issue involves the pins inside the TCM become loose. Owners have re-soldered the pins or replaced the TCM.
You've already spent ~ half of the trucks total value on the transmission repair so i would make sure the shop fixes it. Check KBB to find 'estimates' of your truck's value.
@hixster I actually had that bypassed several years ago the shop had to flush it several times to get the water out. He told me at the time it might never give issues but it's a roll of the dice. That was probably 2018?
@johnb8811 Flushed radiator and transmission? whoa.. If the truck has already had a SMOD event, I would be very wary of putting any more money in it.
@hixster Yeah, if trans fluid and coolant have already mixed then that transmission is toast.
@chucktobias he should have mentioned the SMOD in his op, sheesh
Unless it's a simple wiring problem P0744 is a pretty bad one:
I would not pour a lot more money into that thing if it comes down to that.
@chucktobias I've got to wait til next Thursday to get it back in the shop. I have a 4 month old at home and a wife that's not working I can't afford another payment right now. I'm hoping they just misdiagnosed it.
