I have been looking for a new daily driver I drive 40 miles one way for work. I currently drive a 2012 Nissan Altima but it is starting to have problems and I know it is not going to be worth it to fix. So I have been looking at older Toyotas. If I can get the standard transmission is it more reliable than the automatic or should I not be afraid of purchasing either.

Well Toyota's generally don't have automatic transmissions problems either but of course standard transmissions are much more reliable than anything

If a mechanic checks it out & gives you the green light, sure.

It depends on an engine and your location. In Europe some Toyota's engines last a little bit over 100k miles.
