2011 Toyota Highlander Limited, V6, 3.5L, 4WD, 212074KM, Auto transmission -
Hi Scotty I've got a question for you - i bought this Toyota highlander from a used car dealer and they gave me a good deal at the time. Before buying I took it to a mechanic to check it. It had some minor issues like 4 wheel alignment which they told me could be done no problem. But they also told me that there was a some sweating below the transmission input seal - i asked them several times and they told me they have seen cars like that which run for several years and never start leaking. So I ended up buying the car and then had my mechanic back home again take a look at it and they too told me the same thing - don't worry about it now! Guess what happened - due to covid19 i moved to another province and had to do an OUT of PROVINCE inspection and it FAILED. The mechanic says "there is a transmission leak under the input seal" - i've checked several places and they say the labour is around 16-20 hours and it costs around CAD$2000 - what should i do, sell the car or repair it? is it worth repairing it? Ive already spent a few hundreds fixing other things on it. The car drives perfect but it has been sitting in an underground heated parking for a few weeks now. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks a lot!
You may want to try having another mechanic do an out of province inspection. I also don't know why a transmission fluid leak would fail. If it really is leaking and needs to be fixed I would definitely have it fixed. A 2011 Highlander is worth way more than $2000.00. Plus those are really good cars and can last a really long time.
$2000 I can get so many XL double double from Tim Hortons.
