Scotty,
I have a 2007 Toyota FJ,185K on the clock. Due to medical and other issues it was driven about 10k miles over 1 year with no oil change. When refilling the engine oil I was horrified to find sludge in the oil fill cap area and the dipstick was stuck pretty good due to crud around the O ring,There was no sign of water in the oil or filter. I use Royal Purple 5-30 HMX high mileage and RP filter. I am worried about the VVT system and plan on changing the oil and filter again after 100 miles. Is there anything else I can safely do? Is this oil OK for a 4.0?
Thank you for your time
Scotty recommends the CRO products. Search his Youtube channel for the videos about it.
" ATS 505 CRO Oil Treatment"
Sludge is never easy without getting in the engine & scooping it out.
The ats oil additive before the next few oil changes (use high mileage synthetic oil) might help get some loose but you have to get on the road more between changes so it gets heated & the oil can "chip away" at the build up.
Thanks for advice guys, ut the 505 CRO appears to be out of stock everywhere. There web site only has a tab for preorder. Anyone know where I can buy some, Any alternatives?
It appears they pulled it from every location aside from their site (used to be sold by resellers on amazon).
As far as the wait it should only be a couple weeks backorder if you place an order now.
There are some shops that have their injector cleaner set-up so they might have the oil 505 in stock & do the service.
Not too sure about others, most are meant for older engines, i.e. carbed early 80s & prior.
THANKS I will just have to wait on the back order.
