I just came across a deal from an insurance auction:
https://www.iaai.com/vehicledetails/38872569?RowNumber=22
2007 Rav4 limited v6 50k miles perfect condition, but got rear ended. Would it be agood idea to buy it and fix it up or would that be too expensive?
no. Don't buy accident vehicles. Scotty reminds us over and over.
It's going to be a never ending PITA
It looks like a good deal, because the RAV4 does look it has heavy body damage and has 50,000 miles. However here is the elephant in the room. The photos do not show if the RAV4 suffered any underside and/or frame damage in the collision.
The people who buy from auctions are professional car dealers and paint & fender people. They know what their looking for, unless you are paint & fender person. I would buy any car from an insurance auction. The reason the RAV4 is at the insurance auction means an insurance company totaled the RAV4 and now the bargain RAV4 has a salvage or rebuilt title.
Ask yourself a question: Do you plan fix the body damage yourself with quality GM junkyard parts? Or Do you plan to take the RAV4 to a body shop?
If plan repair the car yourself and are comfortable with project. It does sound like a good deal, unless car has frame damage. However if take the RAV4 to body shop, this purchase will be a false economy.
Cash value 8000
repair cost 6000
resale value unknown
I know you were looking for a first car don't buy Auction cars they have all kinds of problems usually
The value it claims is 8000 and the repair cost 7000, which means that it was almost totaled.
Also, what do you mean "fix it up," the repair cost is upwards of 7000!
Your right. I just don't know where to look for my first car. I looked at Carfax, craigslist, and facebook marketplace. Which site would i get the best deal on do you think?
I'd look at both dealer and private party. I find it easy on Cargurus and Craigslist, what was your budget and where were you? Maybe we could help you better.
My parent's budget is about $6-7k. I am in Westchester, New York 10502. I want a v6 rav4 years 2007-2012. Would not prefer the base model. I would prefer the limited. Thanks for the help, man! I have been checking out this car: https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/JTMBK32VX76019238
It’s not worth it - I would pass on it. Maybe you might save now but you’ll potentially pay for it later.
Your right; i'm ditching the thing
