So I got a 2015 Jeep Patriot Latitude 2.4L 4x4, automatic, w 115k miles.
When I start up my car in the morning to go to work two new things have been happening lately.
- I turn the key and the engine turns over like normal but when the engine revs it almost stutters or hesitates right away before finally starting normally and It’s just for a moment.
- When idling on a cold start I hear this consistent knocking. This sound either goes away or becomes unnoticeable after giving it some gas. It fades away maybe 10-15 seconds after I start driving.
I linked a recording of the second sound and in the video I’m slowly accelerating in the parking lot. It’s best listened to a little louder as the road and engine noise do mask the sound a little.
What could these be?
side note- I just returned from a 6000 mile road trip to California not too long ago so it has being through a lot lately
Video link doesn’t work (no access). Make a YouTube video instead & post the link here.
Yeah your link doesn't work so make a YouTube video and post it there hopefully it's not rods knocking cuz if it is the engine is on the way out though and those Jeeps are pretty poorly made
Sorry about that! I forgot to make the file unrestricted but here’s the link to the video on YouTube

Is that faint rattling coming from the engine bay?
When was the last time you had a tune up & basic service performed on the vehicle?
