I told a friend of mine that if he had to buy a Chrysler he should stick to Jeep. Was that good advice?

Avoiding Chrysler at all costs would be better. Jeeps have very poor reliability ratings.

That's the case for late-model Jeeps. Older ones, particularly with the 4.0 engine, are a different story as one of Scotty's videos for today indicates:

An exception would be the Grand Cherokee "ZJ" when equipped with the weak Chrysler 4-speed automatic transmission, those tend to be troublesome. Those also have more complex electrical systems than the smaller/plainer Jeeps which is a Chrysler weak point.
