Got a 2003 Nissan Maxima 121k just replace the alternator some rust underneath had exhaust support was rotted but fixed it and has an exhaust leak check engine light. Shocks work as well. With the market being what it is and having to go into work on a daily basis starting in September looking at 40 miles a day round trip. Should I fix the car up or try to find something else? How long should the tranny last as well as the starter? If I do go the used car route whats a reliable but affordable car?
How bad is the rust? That might be the deciding factor.
It might be a good idea to find a guy like Scotty & pay for a thorough inspection of the vehicle. That way you’ll know immediately whether to fix or get of your car.
There’s no point guessing without seeing the vehicle in detail & taking it for a good long road test, the way Scotty does in his videos.
All the best!
Thank you i mean its bad but the ball joints arm etc are ok mainly the exhaust passed inspection so I do have two years thinking of doing exactly what you said about getting it inspected because the market is so high its redic. I mean Corollas and Civics 2011-2012 60k for 12k+ seems a little excessive then again haven't been in the market for a few years.
Yup, if you have 2 yrs before your next state inspection, and if the car is mechanically sound, by all means keep driving it & hope the used car prices drop.. Get that independent inspection though, who knows, maybe your car still has 5 more years of life left..?
