I have a 2000 Camaro 3.8L with 132k miles, several months ago it started not letting me turn the key, I would play with the steering wheel and tilt and the key would finally turn, this would happen every few weeks. A couple of weeks ago it started to happen more often, and now it is always happening. I do have an original key that has barely been used with no rounding at all, and it has the same issue. I have also tried blow out the ignition cylinder with canned air. I have also noticed that I can change my gear selector without turning the key. Any ideas?
Thanks
This same thing happened to me and I fixed it for $3.60.
I got a spray can of Lock-Eeze and gave the lock a couple of squirts.
This stuff is graphite with a solvent vehicle.
It will lubricate the lock and possibly solve your problem. It has been around for a long time and works as a general lubricant too.
The ignition cylinder is worn out. You'll want to swap it out for a new one.
