Keyless entry not responding

Hi Scotty. My name is Carlos. Love your videos. I have learned a lot.

I’m having issues with my 2010 Toyota Corolla 4 cylinder 1.8. Out of nowhere the keyless entry has failed me. Door locks still work in the inside and I can lock with the keys. But it won’t lock or unlock or truck pop with factory key fob. Now here is the kicker I have an after market Compustar remote start. When the car is remote started the factory key fobs work perfectly fine same with the aftermarket remote. But as soon as it off they go right back to not working.

I have gotten the aftermarket remote starter changed and it’s fine. I even removed it and the factory keyless entry still does not work. I’m stuck and don’t know where else to look. If you could give me an idea of what might be happening.  Thank you.

Just another example of how electronic everything is doomed to failure.  Get a car that opens and starts with a key.  I know it's a novel idea, but it won't break if you spill some water on it like every other electronically controlled device.

When you installed the remote start did you splice into the alarm system or keyless entry system? That would be where I would start but it definitely seems like its related to the remote start system. Especially since you said it works while the car was remote started.

@cjbman
I did not splice into the alarm system or keyless entry system. This remote start system uses CANH and CANL at the OBD to talk to the factory system to Lock and Unlock. Nothing is cute in half or anything. Even with the remote start system completely uninstalled. It still does not work. The Remote Starter had been in the car for the past 10 years. But I have uninstalled it now.

Could be that the receiver on the dash has gone faulty and only receives the signal when it is getting 14 volts from the alternator. Possibly a weak car battery or remote battery? Its a weird problem to diagnose.

@cjbman
ok. Where would I be able to find the receiver. Ill try and see if that is the issue. Would it need special programming from the dealership or can it just be replaced?

@cjbman
is the receiver different from the RKE system or is it the same?

They are usually right at the bottom of the windshield where it meets the dash... I don't know if I've ever had to replace one because it was faulty though but I also haven't seen this issue before.

@cjbman
Ok. Thank you. I will check it out and give a try. thank you
