Hello Scotty, upon starting my 2017 kia optima with 30k miles i hear a knocking/rattling noise for a split second. Could it be the pistons? I know you made a number of videos on engine noises and was wondering if that is the case, and if it is what should I do to keep the engine in good shape. I change my oil myself every 5k miles with full synthetic oil and oem filter. I bought the car brand new and have always maintained it and don't drive it hard at all. I have noticed the past 2 times I have done the oil change that only half of the 5 quart bottle is filled from the old oil, so is my engine burning oil from worn pistons at 30k miles?? Thanks again scotty
If you don't see puddle of oil on the ground, your engine burns oil. Take it to the dealership and have them replace/rebuild the engine under warranty. The knocking sound could be from the lack of oil.
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how well you maintain this engine, it is poorly designed and poorly made.
