Neighbor lady has a 2015 Jeep Cherokee 4 cylinder 4x4 Sport, with 80k mileage. She’s underwater on this auto from carmax. Noticed deep engine knock (not too loud) more noticeable during cold engine start. Took it to Mechanic they said $2k to open it up. We are trying to think of a way to get out from it. But meanwhile she bought Lucus oil treatment for knocking engines over 75k. What do you think?

This is a wild idea. Out of the minute possibility the knock is due to gas igniting too early, maybe try the highest octane gas. This is highly unlikely though.

Unfortunate situation. That additive might buy a little time but if it's a rod knock that generally only ends one way.
