knocking in reverse

I have a 07 Chevy Impala with 146,000 miles. Recently and not all the time when I am in reverse and turning it sounds like the CV joints or tie rods in the front of the car will knock or sound like something isn't smooth. It isn't all the time and I'm due for some preventive maintenance. Any ideas?

How about examining front-end components and drive axles for wear?
