Hi scotty I live in United Kingdom my 2009 Kuga 2L diesel (67000 miles) is underpowered, it starts well but sluggish when pulling away , then when I get going it accelerates but not as fast as it should then when I go up a hill I have to change down to 3rd or even 2nd when normally it would got up in 4th no problem . It doesn’t use any engine oil. I have tried resetting the throttle pedal following people on YouTube if there any good . I am not a mechanic but a carpenter and I have managed to do a lot of repairs over the years ,simple stuff albeit , I am 75 yrs old but still quite fit .I have OBD scanner  So mate can you advise/help  kind regards Robert Smurthwaite UK

There are many things than cause poor acceleration/lack of power, and modern diesel engines are very complex. You'll need to take it to an experienced tech who uses a diagnostic scan tool to check things out. It's often caused by things like a malfunctioning DPF system.

Some simple things you can check are fuel and air filters.

2L diesel (67000 miles)

That is quite a low mileage for a 17 years old diesel. Are you the first owner? What distances do you usually drive? Have you tried a long trip?

Diesels don't like short trips. Driving a long distance at highway speeds can clean the DPF unless it is already destroyed.
