We are considering a 2023 Lexus Gx 460 with the v8 or a 2022 Lexus Rx 350 with the v6. We want something super reliable, super comfortable on road ride, quiet and comfortable for road trips, with great seats and good room. What do you recommend more?
GX is mote truck like. RX is more car like.
GX is more roomie. RX is better in gas.
Both are great choices.
You really can't go wrong with either. The GX has preserved more components and parts of the older GXs from the earlier 2000s, which have proven exceedingly reliable. Granted, the GXs are gas hogs, they aren't aerodynamic and they have that 4.6L V8 that has definitely stood the test of time. Although it has 301 horsepower, it won't feel quite as quick as you'd think as the GX is a pretty heavy vehicle.
The RX350 has been popular for the last couple of decades now and has proven to be extremely reliable as well. It's almost like a fancy Toyota Highlander, often sharing the same powertrain. The 3.5L V6 is also super reliable and can last hundreds of thousands of miles if properly cared for, much like the 4.6L V8 in the GX. The RX will be a little cheaper to maintain between the two, but of course the GX will have a little more room.
In summary, what you want all will come down to personal preference. Some things that can maybe tilt your decision one way or the other can be MPG and cost of maintenance. Both are comfortable, super reliable, quiet, and have ample room. Hope this helps!
I have a 2008 GX470, and my mother had an 09 RX350. They are really a good bit different ride, though both are nice.
The GX is based on the off road over-landing beast, the land cruiser, the Prado in this case. The RX is a car based SUV.
As I drive in the mountains a lot, a smaller car hugs the corners better, the GX is higher center, though it does fine. The GX is a beast going up mountains, and can go anywhere you want to go, off road included if you have decent tires for it. I have driven my GX on multi thousand mile road trips, and it does great. No doubt the RX is a great road car as well.
You picked two very nice cars, but different cars. It is very hard to recommend one in your situation over the other.
I would suggest giving both a nice long test drive, write down the pros and cons, and go with the one that wins.
Thanks for the reply. How much bigger is one over the other in areas such as headroom and legroom?
@elipscombs no problem! I like to use Edmunds.com for stats like this. This is what I found:
The GX: Front head room 38.0 in., Front leg room 41.7 in., Front shoulder room 55.4 in., Front hip room 56.5 in.
The RX: Front head room 39.4 in., Front leg room 44.1 in., Front shoulder room 57.8 in., Front hip room 56.6 in.
As you can see the RX offers a little more interior room.
