Lexus IS 300 Reliability

So, I have a friend that has 2 Is 300 2001-2005 and they both have 200,000 to 225,000 miles on them. I'm planning to get one but want to know around what mileage they start having some serious problems. Is it worth paying $4,000 - $5,000 for a well taken care of IS 300 with 175,000+ plus miles?

With that mileage, I think that's too much money, I would offer like a grand less and expect maybe a few expensive repairs between 200k-300k miles since they are luxury cars and pretty complex. That said, those NA 2JZ engines are bulletproof and better than the V6 Lexus cars since it is inline 6 and there are fewer moving components. Just have a pro mechanic check them both and if they are both good and really well maintained, go ahead and buy the one that is cheaper.

Makes sense, I'll try to get one and have a mechanic look at it! Thanks.

Have it inspected, but realize that problems are likely with those kinds of miles. It just comes with the territory.
