Hi first of all I’m a big fan of yours. Secondly I seen your videos about the Lexus RX 350. And I’m really interested in getting one, but a 3.5 liter engine is a bit too much for me. So I’ve been looking at the Lexus NX. So my question is are they just as dependable/ reliable vehicles? And if so which model year should I look in to?
thank you so much, really appreciate the content you put out.

Absolutely yes!
The Lexus NX is basically a fancy luxury RAV4. And the RAV4 is one of the most reliable cars (and popular cars) in the country.
The NX has some added bells and whistles that the RAV4 doesn’t have. But the base engine and transmission are very similar, and reliable.
I recommend getting the naturally aspirated version (or the hybrid version kf you are into hybrids), NOT the turbo version.
And if so which model year should I look in to?
If you plan to keep the vehicle for as long as possible and put many miles on it past 150/200,000 miles I recommend to skip the last generation of the NX (model years 2015-2021) as the gasoline-only versions only came with turbocharged engines. You are better with a naturally aspirated engine for longevity not to mention fewer/less expensive issues overtime.
The new generation (starting with 2022 model year) came with a naturally aspirated engine option. Realize, since it is a new generation of NX we won’t know the issues it will have (I am talking beyond the powertrain, so bumper to bumper) until it’s been out for a few years.
I’m looking for a used compact suv preferably a Lexus as they are most reliable. So something that would be around 15k plus minus…
