Is the GM LNJ 3400 V6 more reliable than the other 3400s?

That's a pretty specific question I'm not sure anybody will be able to answer.

The LNJ engine was put in these vehicles, so you're better off asking about those:

  • 2005-2009 Chevrolet Equinox
  • 2006-2009 Pontiac Torrent

I have a feeling that the Equinox isn't known for its reliability.

also, why do you ask?

I like the Equinox and Torrent, I was wondering if the engine in the 2006-2009 was more reliable. I see tons of these in my town still and they seem reliable.

well they're more than 10 yr old cars now. I wouldn't waste my money on them if you want a daily driver.

Well, cars above 10 years old are all I'm going to be able to afford. Less than 5k

where do you live?

Texas

Man am I jealous of those prices they are SO good the age of a Civic for that price range would be double for the same price in California. Anyways @themercurycougar , as you can see, there are many cars that are much higher in quality that are cheap to maintain other than a junky Chevy SUV, I would go for those.

if he does need an SUV, then he's going to have to spend more money to get something decent.

@mountainmanjoe
That is correct. You found a nice Corolla for 6 grand, while the equivalent gen of Rav4 might cost 10 grand (here in California 15 grand for a 2012 model, double what the Corolla costs).

Yeah I'm looking for an SUV, these cars are also almost 230 miles away from me not that it matters, LOL. I have found many toyotas that are quite a bit over 10 years old (1996-2009 cars), that have less than 180k miles, and for less than 4k. For example I found a 2007 Corolla LE 170k miles for 2500. Its already sold but those are the kinds of cars I have found.

you didn't say your city so I picked the biggest one just as an example. I'm sure you can find something similar in your city.

If I were you, I would scrape together more money, or wait and save up more. 170k miles is too much. You'll just end up looking for another car soon.

yeah. Thanks for the help y'all!

You might want to check here - from a quick look, it looks like it's not a great engine (but I wouldn't know how it compares with other GM 3400 engines). From what I've heard, the only really good GM V6 is the 3800.
