That oil has to be going somewhere. It's either leaking oil or burning oil. If you have no leaks, there's no oil residue anywhere - the engine is burning oil. If this only started recently check your PCV valve.

Oil leaks can be a lot of causes. When you said you replaced valve cover gasket 2 years ago how many miles did you put on the new gasket? They typically last for 30k miles. It could be your PCV valve, worn out piston rings, oil leaking from the oil pan, leak in the rear main seal or front main seal etc..... I would buy the UV dye kit and pour in your engine oil and drive it a while and find exactly where the leak is coming from and go from there. Good luck.

Scotty suggests a new EGR

what the heck does EGR have to do with oil ???? I think he had a senior moment there. Probably meant PCV.

Yeah.. he had a little slip of the tongue. I'd probably call it an PVC valve :silly:

@mmj Did a quick search to see what the www said about this and was surprised to see several top hits saying a bad egr would cause oil burning. I don't understand how because it's on the exhaust side? It returns post combustion gases to intake so how could this cause oil burning?

Now Scotty recommends PCV valve

this makes zero sense to me

Try a google search query of " can a bad egr cause oil consumption " and marvel at the results. 🙄

thank you.

@imperator "I saw it on the internet!" lol
