I've been giving my 1990 Crown vic some TLC for a while now, and I learned recently that the MAF sensor should come before the throttle body. If the sensor is somehow installed after the throttle, what kind of issues would this cause? On my car, the MAF appears to have been installed between the throttle and the intake manifold.

You're right. The MAF sensor will be located between the intake air filter box and the throttle body. It won't be between the throttle body and the intake manifold.
But I think a lot of those old Ford V8's (1990 and prior) were speed density controlled.
They didn't have a MAF sensor. They used a MAP sensor
