Is there a difference between an 5 speed and a 6 speed?

Only difference is the extra overdrive gear. A 5-speed tranny has the 5th gear as overdrive whereas a 6-speed tranny has 5th and 6th gears as overdrive. 4th gear is always 1:1 gear ratio.

The 6 speed will be more efficient and maybe go a little faster on the highway.
So far only maybe. I had Daewoo Nexia 5 speed manual. 5th gear was so week that 4th one had higher top speed.
