Manual Transmission Swap on A 1998 Landcruiser 100?

Hi Folks,

So lets assume I have more money than sense, and I really like driving a manual. How much would it typically cost in America or Japan (because I'm an idiot and I might buy an import) to have the transmission swapped?.

There is a certain amount of logic to my stupidity, because I don't want it done by English mechanics. So if I was really pig-headed about this and went to a Toyota dealership in Japan or America and got a warranty for their work, would I be looking at a massive bill?.

I know the smart thing would be to just leave it alone, and maintain the automatic transmission until it fails. But if I don't keep my left hand busy while driving the Italian part of me takes over with all the gestures at all the useless drivers out there.

Shot in the dark, but I would budget $20,000 US (sounds like you are in the UK, so I don’t know).  But whatever it is, I would assume it would be more than selling yours and buying one with a stock manual.

You might check out some of the Aussie 4x4 sites.  If anyone would know, it’s those guys.

Wow. $20,000. That's that idea out then. Typical response: maybe I should have become a mechanic instead of a carpenter...

Please do not go to a dealership for this or any other work.  If you really want to do this, find an independent mechanic and make sure you get ALL the hardware necessary.

Thanks, I'll probably leave it. Too many moving parts it seems.
