I'm trying to install a map sensor on a 2003 Buick Park Avenue, regular 6 cylinder. I've never done this particular repair. Is the map sensor on the intake manifold?

IT SAID THAT THE MAP SENSOR SHOULD BE REPLACED OR CLEANED

I don't know what tool you're using, but a diagnostic scan checks for trouble codes. (and you don't clean MAP sensors). Those codes tell you when a system is malfunctioning. The computer has no idea if the problem is a particular part, or something else. The problem could be in the wiring, or is a side effect of a problem in a completely different system, which is why you need to look at ALL possible causes, and diagnose the issue. If you just guess and fire parts at it you can get nowhere and just waste a bunch of time and money.

ANY HINTS?

Yes , you need to follow all the posting instructions that were shown to you.

Post your vehicle miles , and the trouble codes you scanned with full description. Then go to obd-codes.com, follow the troubleshooting steps there.

(all of this is covered in our FAQ, by the way)

Use OEM sensors whenever you can.

@imperator Strangely, rockauto.com lists a MAP sensor for that car though the charm.li manual says it has a MAF sensor.

@chucktobias I think you're mistaken. Charm does.

I RAN AN OBD11 SCAN ON THE CAR, AND IT SAID THAT THE MAP SENSOR SHOULD BE REPLACED OR CLEANED.  CHEAP PART SO I WANTED TO REPLACE IT.  I  KNOW IT COULD INSTEAD BE THE MAF SENSOR, ACCORDING TO WHAT I'VE READ ELSEWHERE.  ANY HINTS?

THANK YOU, MountainManJoe!! THAT REALLY HELPS! THANKS AGAIN!!
