Hello! So, I was browsing through Facebook marketplace and found a Mark 3 Supra for $4,000 but the only thing wrong with it is knocking. Can you guys tell me if it's worth fixing the knocking problem and buying it?
someone probably blew then engine and then put it up for sale. Is the car worth a new engine?
Probably not since I won't have the money to fix it right now, would it be a good project car?
projects require money. Lots of money. Do you have lots of money and time?
If you don't have much money right now, is it wise to drop $4k on a non-working car?
If you don't have the knowledge and skills to diagnose a knock, is it wise to dive straight into a project car with serious engine problems?
Didn't think of it like that but that helped a lot. Thank you for helping me understand how a project car works! I'm probably going to buy a Lexus IS 300 that works lol. I work at a mechanic shop with a very intelligent boss so I know he can help a ton with this that's why I was considering it. I wouldn't want to take it to a shop so they can fix it for thousands.
If it's a rod knock (bad bearings), fixing it means rebuilding or replacing the engine ($$$$). If it's been abused and/or neglected to the point where that's happening who knows what else is wrong with it.
Oh man that doesn't sound good, do they usually come in manual?
Being a performance car most of them probably came with manual transmission. However you cut it though indications are you're looking at a deep dive into your bank account here.
I didn't think this was going to be too expensive but now I understand, thank you!
