Hi Scotty. My wife is shopping for a Miata around the 2007 era. I know they have a good reputation but how about their automatic transmissions ? We would rather find a standard but should it be a deal breaker ? Thanks for your help. Scott Stofer . Victoria BC.
If it's the 5-speed, then it's the Ford transmission you would want to RUN AWAY FROM. If you're getting a Miata, then might as well get the manual version. Manuals and Miatas make a happy pair.
Their automatic transmissions are ok but the car is sluggish with it and that’s not what you want from a sport car.
For a Miata it’s so much more fun to drive with a manual! If both of you know how to drive manual, just get the manual and don’t look back.
Well, Victoria, BC, … traffic jams! Unless you mostly want to venture in your Miata up the island, … an automatic transmission may not be such a bad idea, … driving in town.
Anyway, … manual is what would be best car to enjoy. Any year, as long as it’s not been trashed. There are significant number of them on the island. Most trashed. But since you are look for a used one, … look up the island: Parksville, French Creek, even as far as Courtney/Comox. Lots of wrinkly moisters up there with perfectly good Miatas who are no longer much interested in driving them, … or can’t drive them because of age related health issues. Shop there for best deals! FWIW.
