Hi Scotty, what is a better option in terms of reliability, a CRV or CX-5. I test drove both of them and honestly I was impressed how the Mazda handles. Is that 2.5 naturally aspirated as good as Hondas ? I heard only positive things regarding that matter. Thanks
Clarification: Are you looking at model year 2019 for both vehicles?
I love Hondas. I have a 20+ year old one myself. And I drive a 5+ year old CRV frequently. Both great cars. And Honda cars have treated me well.
With that said, I think Mazda has a compelling product with the CX5. It is something i would highly consider, and even take a chance on, if I were in the market for a car.
Mazda CX-5 definitely.
SkyActive is much BETTER than EarthDreams. Period.
aditonally Mazda’s SkyDrive transmissions last way more than any CVT.
they’re not perfect, not as good as RAV4s - but if you maintain them well, they can last for a very long time.
Thanks for your feedback
I have friends with both. The one with the CRV 2018 is not so happy. He had a glitchy touchscreen and then some fuel pump issue fixed under warranty. He loved his 1999 CRV better since it was over 500k kms. Also the CVT has been causing some erratic behavior of getting lower power than it has too.
The guy with Cx-5 2019 is much happier. He was afraid since he had a CX9 2009 and it had constant issues with random electricals.
Both do a lot of city driving since they work as business development.
@pranavesh-chander The fuel pump issue doesn't relate to Honda because they usually get their parts from a different company same with Toyota.
I'm not sure which engine does your Honda have I vote for the Mazda on this one for the following reason:
Mazda has a 6 speed AT and it is much better than CVT.
I’m talking about cvt transmission which I’m not a fan of it. I’d go with Mazda in this case . Thanks
I would give a slight edge on Honda if you are getting the 2.4L engine. From 2017 and above, Mazda uses cylinder deactivation which can be vulnerable to carbon buildup. It all comes to preference. For my preferences, I would take the Honda CRV.
I own a cx5 and have spent quite a bit of time in a crv. I would go the Mazda all the way. I am not a fan of the cvt. The Mazda is a better drive. The Honda does have more rear hatch space. I would not get a Mazda with the turbo or cylinder deactivation.
Agree 💯
Whats the problem with the cylinder deactivation?
