Scotty, Are Mazda's MPV Minivan's made from 1998-2003 as good as their 4 Door Sedan Cars? they look like cheap reliable Toyota Sienna Alternatives.

Forget those cars. They rust like mad. The engine and transmission has old Mazda issues (Mazda collaborated with Ford at the time).

ok, what about the newer ones from2005-2010?

Still my answer is no. I would go for a Sienna.

Big price difference...not everyone can afford to pay the price for sienna..Wich ,I'm sure is why he asked about the Mazda..I've known a few people over the last 5 years who had these, they loved them, but they also have transmission problems sometimes

ok, so like the Chrysler Vans?

Consider an older Sienna that fits your budget. You can find good ones in a wide range of prices.

ahh yes the ol 2001 models are like 2k

Yep you are getting a two decade old minivan either way just get an older Sienna

right the 2001 Sienna's are like 2k

Great
The Sienna should be at the top of your friends buying list.

well they are now

If you thinking Mazda5, … those are pretty good. These are real minivans, … lot less room than MVP or Toyota Sienna. Most of the stuff on these are very same as on Mazda3 so maintenance cost is low, repairs - if any, reasonable. Find one not trashed, … and you may just like it!

so let me get this right, the Mazda 5 is better then the MPV in terms of Reliability?

Absolutely! Night and day, … the only reason Mazda5 was not popular because of its size, … a real minivan! In fact they are very good, … there is one right across my street. ‘Hood kids own it (3 juvenile brothers), they bought it used, cheap, … previous owner was disappointed with its size, hence he sold it! They have been trying to trash this thing for about 3 years, now! All they get is a middle finger from that poor little van! Mind you, … rust around arches at the rear wheels is now visible from my window!

wow ok I will look into them

They were piles of junk. And by the time you buy one, it'll be a MASSIVE pile of junk.

ahh, got it

24 year old Ford partnered pile of junk with a Jatco automatic transmission. Just what you needed.

oh wow, screw that then.

But still lets wait for Scotty's response I am sure he WILL respond in a couple of days in his video. But yeah if it was an excellent van in all other ways I still would not get it because of the Jatco transmission. I am pretty sure the Mazda 5 is better than the MVP especially if you get into 2012 2013 years but you can't really afford that. Also what is your price range? 2k?

wow he really likes these, thanks

your welcome;)

The Mazda MPV is about on par with the Honda Odyssey. They have their issues but overall they are decent. No van compares to the Toyota Sienna but you will pay dearly for one. They had rust issues and like the Odyssey they had transmission issues but overall, if it checks out it can be okay vans.

right, from what i have heard the Odyssey transmission issues were worse then the dodge minivan's

No, the Dodge Caravan was the worst for Transmissions, and pretty much everything else really. The Odyssey was definitely know to have transmission issues and the MPV did too. Having said that, if you can't afford a Sienna and need a good second choice an Odyssey or MPV would probably be your best bet. Having said that the Sienna is the best by a huge margii which is why they are so expensive.
