Greetings. I have been following Scotty for a while and actually bought a 2017 Mazda CX-5 after a review Scotty did on one, I love that thing now, lol. So, was wondering, what do you think about Mazda's pickup trucks and would you buy the new 2023 BT-50?

Thanks!

The new Mazda BT-50 pickups are actually made by Isuzu and are based on the new Isuzu D-Max.

It's like what the Fiat FullBack is to the Mitsubishi Triton, the same truck with a very different brand image.

Frankly? It's an awesome little truck. As far as the interior, transmission, and design it's pretty much perfect.

As far as the engines, I can't find any information - old Isuzu 2.5L used to be great, and the frame on the old ones used to be incredibly beefy. I just do not know what cost cutting measure they took on the new generation, nor do I know how the new 1.9/3.0 compare.

Although the Mazda/Isuzu has a far superior interior and probably has similar reliability,

I'd go for the Hilux (any PETROL, new Toyota diesels are a bit weak) - you can't go wrong with a legend.

The Mazda BT-50 is NOT a Mazda.  It is a rebadged Isuzu D-Max.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing.  The transmission is an Aisin transmission.  Toyota uses Aisin transmission in many if not most of their cars.  Maybe some folks on here know a little more about the Diesel engine it comes with.

Thank you Dan and Kaizen, for taking your time to answer.

I do not have enough experience or knowledge about cars, so this is very helpful. I thought i was being a little carried away by the impression i have from the CX-5 and what little i know and have heard about Mazda. My Mom's pick up truck (Nissan Frontier. "2007, i think") broke down recently, and yeah, the transmission failed. We use the truck for work, carrying a lot of stuff, people, going up stiff hills and bumpy roads. So we were looking at options, and I was really exited about Mazda's pick-up truck, wanted her to consider it to have something nice but also reliable. But i didn't know enough about how good Mazda's pick-ups are since this is not what they are known for, or not that i have heard of. The transmision was definitely one of the points i didn't know about, and was a concern. I'm glad to know they actually are the same Toyota uses. And if they are made by Isuzu based on the Isuzu D-MAX as Dan says.... well hell, that's pretty dam good i think. I've  heard that Isuzu is known for their Diesel engines.

Of course nothing like Toyota, i agree. But interior design wise for a  small truck.... I'm a fool for Mazda in that.

I hope this helps other people too and, if someone knows more about these pick ups or have had them and want to share the experience, please do!!

Thank you guys for your insights and to Scotty for providing this space to educate and help people around the world.

Please excuse me, if there are grammar mistakes, english is not my native language.
