About power steering; the fluid appears to go through the main radiator for cooling. The hose broke loose and all the fluid leaked out. This happened about two miles from my home. I drove the distance with no fluid. Is it possible the pump could have survived?
The DX has a 5-speed manual trans. The fluid leak was due to a stuck valve [?] and was a simple fix for my mechanic. The steering pump was not damaged. While in the shop, I had the fuel pump replaced due to an intermittent power problem.
Are you sure it was the power steering and not the transmission? Automatic transmissions typically have a cooler in the radiator but this is the first time I've heard of it with power steering. (However I'm not familiar with your particular vehicle.) Check your transmission fluid to be on the safe side.
If it is the power steering fluid that leaked out and you drove it two miles that way it is not very likely the pump survived. You could fix the leak, fill it back up, and try it.
