Hello, my inlaw is looking to get a car preferablya Mazda because of some level of reliability and affordability given Hondas and toyotas are priced insanly rn, he found a Mazda6 150k miles 1 owner, 5k vs a 2013 Mazda3 170k miles one owner the 3300k.

Which will be a better bang for the buck?

And are they any known issued he should look out for when going to get it?

Thank you for the responses.

The cars you're looking at are probably not Mazdas, the '12 Mazda6 is a Ford Fusion and the '13 Mazda3 is a Ford Focus.

(at least in most of the world these were the years before they switched over to their own designs)

Realize that before the 3rd generation of the Mazda6 and Mazda3 there were just Ford products in disguise. The only Mazda sedans/hatches you want are 3rd gen 3/6, this generation:

Mazda3 3rd generation

Mazda6 3rd generation

Even if those were 3rd gen Mazdas, Both the cars you're looking at have too much milage and are nearing the ends of their lives, you'd want to spend a bit more and get something slightly newer (2014-2016 was a good time period for Mazda) and most importantly with less millage.

But generally, these are more reliable than pretty much all of their competition.

Non-Turbo SkyActive engines are great, and the conventional automatics are solid.

They didn't have weak CVTs or AT issues like the first years of the 11th generation of the Corolla and 7th gen Camry of that era.

Thank you sir. We'll try to target a later generation of the mazda6 non-turbocharged.
