How can I tell if a Mazda SUV I want to buy has an Aisin transmission? Thanks Davy.
Call dealership, give vin number, they will tell you.
This is something that’s hard to check, usually you’d need Scotty to check the VIN to do that.
Mazda SkyDrive automatic gearboxes are only available as a 6 speed - anything else is probably a jatco or an old Ford design.
The ones that were offered with the Aisin as the only 6 speed automatic version are:
2004~2013 Mazda6
2007~2014 Mazda 3
2005~2013 Mazda CX-7
2005~2016. Mazda CX-9/MPV
The rest of the models that were offered with a 6 speed may have a SkyDrive gearbox - that is way better.
the Aisin is not bad (like some of the Jatcos they had) but it’s not great either. it was also used by alpha Romeo, Jaguar and on the BMW i8
