Hello again Scotty and friends how are Mercury Milan’s? I found one for sale don’t know the year but it’s All wheel drive fully loaded with only 75,000 miles the guy lowered the price to $3500 from $4000. I also saw a Subaru Outback with 150,000 miles for the same price and believe the same year range as the Milan a 2006-2010 which one would be better?

I would go with the Subaru. Fully loaded Milan would basically be a Fusion which is a decent car but the transmission tend to be weak and Subaru has a much better AWD system. Have a mechanic check out the head gasket and transmission before you buy a Subaru though.

According to owner reports on carcomplaints, engine problems peaked around 2006 and transmission(+ engine) problems started happening very commonly in 2010.

08 09 seems decent enough and for 3.5-4k it could be a good car as long as a mechanic checks it out.

I'd go with the Outback.  But I'm not sure about the head gasket issue of that generation.  The Milan is basically a Ford Fusion.

I personally like the milan and subaru, but the subaru is higher maintance, but better AWD. the head gasket issue wasn't fixed untill around 2012, when they started using a different kind of head gasket, I'm pretty sure.

The Milan was actually a good car. However, between those two I would go for the Outback.

If the head gasket on Subaru was fixed recently, go for the Subaru.

I like the Outback better as well I prefer a rugged vehicle that you can haul a lot of stuff however it has twice the miles and had 2 owners. the Milan is the original owner I actually done business with him for a couple of years and he’s only used it going to work and around town driving now he’s selling it because he’s retiring. The Outback I know was more a highway car going back and forth from The Catskills down to Florida from the first owner. The  second owner is selling it for his daughter who used it going away to college in Rhode Island and never had any problems with the head gasket or car itself. Now she’s moved to the city she doesn’t need the car anymore.
