Metal on metal sound when hitting bumps

Hi Scotty, I drive a 95 Ford contour gl with 136000km on it, my question is when I hit a bump while I’m driving if I don’t miss it that is, I hear a metal on metal sound. I changed my stabilizer bar links and bushing last year as well as my control arm/ball joint but I accidentally ripped the ball joint bolts on them while installing both, I was wondering if that would cause the sound I’m hearing when hitting a pothole or just a general bump in the road?

what if you park the car and bounce each corner with your knee... can you hear the sound then?

Check to see if the rubber bushings on your shocks have disintegrated.

The rubber on my front struts?

First thing that comes to mind is shocks or struts. Or both.

Could be the strut mount at the top, could be a bushing on the shock being worn out.

With that being said, noises can be tricky to figure out, so you could get a kit that has sending units and a receiver with headphones, that way you can pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from.

Do you still have your bump stops ? maybe they have dry rotted and fell off the car

Not sure and I believe it’s my back struts I’m hearing mistaking the noise from the front, I know i need rear struts they’re all rotted at the back but thank guys for all the advice!
