What is your opinion about mobile mechanic repair services, and the future of the auto repair industry in general post Covid? Do you see a larger demand for mobile repair? We can already find mobile spray coating for undercarriage rust prevention, mobile car detailers, and mobile windshield repair/replacement, and mechanics.
I like working on cars but I'm in my early 40's and don't want to attend trade school to learn to be a full-blown mechanic. I'd like to be a specialized mobile repair service that only works on brake systems. You probably already have all the videos I need to learn the trade. Lol It seems to be an area that doesn't require an extensive amount of expensive specialized tools and the systems as you explain them seem pretty straightforward. I don't think I've seen you do a drum brake video but are there even any cars being built with drum brakes anymore or last 20 years? If you start a mobile repair school using your videos I hope I can be the first to get a "Scotty's Automotive School for Dummies" certificate of completion.
I understand that income potential might limited because of traveling time and ability to complete jobs but if I could make $300 bucks a day, I'd do alright at the end of the week.
What do you think? Thank you in advance for any replies.
Brakes are not as cut and dry as just replacing pads and shoes. Bleeding brakes on a car with ABS takes not only just the bleed. You have to have a high quality scan tool and the process can take an hour or more. Most cars today have ABS and there are sensors at the brake that sometimes can fail or get burnt up as well. Scotty did a video a few weeks back where he had to replace one of those. MB cars and others have warning lights that will warn you when your pads are getting to the end of their life. These systems also have sensors that basically get burned when the pads reach a certain thickness. Those sensors are expensive and unless the customer doesn't care about the warning light on all the time they need to be replaced as well. This is just my two cents. I wish you luck!
We have a link to a mobile mechanic, Lemon Squad, in the FAQ page for mechanics.
