I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse gs spider with a 2.4 Lt 4 valve, that randomly turns off on me. No check engine light comes on and sometimes turns back on while other times it doesn’t I have noticed a loud ticking coming from the throttle body but the engine is strong and everything else seems to be working too. Can someone help me diagnose my problem?
It's probably going to boil down to either the flow of fuel, or spark being interrupted. How old is the fuel filter? The fuel pump? What do the spark plugs look like? The car needs to be scanned for diagnostic codes which might give clues as to what is going on.
I have recently changed the spark plugs and the batter as I was told it could be a bad battery (the car had this issue before replacing the spark plugs and battery) I don’t know how old the fuel filter is but I have one ready to go in, but I haven’t checked the fuel pump as I don’t have the time.
Check your crank position sensor and the throttle position sensor.
Check the gas cap
