I have this whining noise coming from my engine. I think it’s the bearing in the alternator and water pump, but don’t know how single out which one. Was thinking about taking off the belt and move with hand but if is my water pump do I need to change my water pump or is there a way to just change the bearing?

Your on the right track..take off the belt and twirl each pulley or item that the belt drives and feel for noise/roughness.

If its the water pump...there is no changing of the bearing..you change the WHOLE water pump in itself.

Whining usually is a PS pump. But the belt approach is what to try. How many miles???

68,000 and I’ve never had to change my alternator
