My 2022 Toyota Camry SE FWD 2.5L 4cyl engine blew up today while having a trip. The dealership told the piston blew first and caused two holes in the engine. I would like to inquire what could have cause it. I do maintenance on time all the time.
- Oil change every 5k miles and tire rotation
- Confirm with the dealership if something is needed
- Never had an issue even a small one
- Do a trip often times, but not too often
what could have cause it.
many possibilities. Low oil, incorrect oil, overheating, abusing it (over-revving, neutral drops, etc.) , flood damage ...
if it's a defect, then powertrain warranty should cover it right.
@imperator Oil was in proper level, did not overheat while on the road at least the gauge said it wasn’t, don’t usually speed, don’t do neutral drops, and no flood damage. I have also thought numerous things about what could’ve cause it, but any of them would be drving style nor maintenance.
It’s under warranty, but not sure if they gonna cover because it’s gonna be a lot of steps and well just hoping for it. Thanks!

Factory defect most likely. Hopefully the car is still under warranty. (You did not mention mileage.)
Also for future reference, when posting please put your question and details in the body of your post, not in the title which is meant for a short description. Thank you. (Title edited.)

@chucktobias Thank you I will keep that in mind. I just got 65k miles
