Hi Scotty, I have a mazda 3 2006, sometimes when i put my car into reverse i don't feel the car respond and the car won't backup and the same for drive, but then sometimes it works fine, and for the first the other day when trying to put it in gear the AT light came on and went off. I press the brake again ancd put it in reverse and it backed up but i put it in drive it didn't pickup speed. can you please tell me what's the problem?!?

Thank very much!!😊

Check that transmission fluid is at the proper level. Low fluid can cause all kinds of hinky behavior and cause permanent damage. Another thing to check is that the shift linkage is not out of adjustment.

yes the fluid is good, it's at the right level.

@sonns63
Does it look or smell burned? That would indicate worn internal parts.

Probably the next thing to check is that the linkage has not gotten out of adjustment, or if your shifter is electronic, that it's operating properly. There are probably also relays and/or solenoids in the transmission that could be causing a problem. (These are just generic suggestions since I am not familiar with that particular transmission. Possibly Scotty or someone else who is can chime in.)

If none of the above unfortunately it sounds like it's probably time for rebuilding or replacing the transmission.

thanks Chuck very much,  I was checking around on youtube also and found a few people with similar problems with the same type of car and year, a couple of them had the leakage problem with the corrosion around it one had a solenoid problem and one had a control module problem.  I do know it's not the fluid it's at the right level.

Thanks for your answers to this!! 😊
