Scotty I was involved in a hit and run collision with my Infiniti G25 that was totaled by my insurance company. I just purchased a 2017 Camry 4 cylinder with 51K miles with new tires and brakes. I can’t wait can you tell me some things I need to keep an eye on as it ages?

Honestly, this is the last year run of that generation (with a very good 6-speed transmission). Carcomplaints.com lists very few problems. https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Camry/2017/

Many times, the last year of a generation is the best year. Many of the issues of a generation have been addressed.

I'd advise you to check the Recalls and TSB section in the link above, to make sure that the recalls have been taken care of (a dealer can tell you via the VIN) and if any of the TSBs might be applicable to your situation.

Congratulations! And Enjoy!

You got a gem! That generation that spanned from 2012-2017 is notorious for weak transmissions, but the later years especially 2017 don't have those issues. The earlier ones had some problems with many issued bulletins, as well as transmission/torque converter issues and some of miscellanious stuff. The last year of a generation barely has any problems in the Toyota lineup because of their Kaizen technique.

That said, take care of it. Go over the service records, if the transmission fluid wasn't changed, drain and fill it now. Don't wait beyond 60k miles, thats where problems start to occur if you don't change it.

If you are at all concerned with safety, in case of another crash, Toyota's 'logic' is all about perfection over time and the 2017 model year has a nearly flawless safety score (which you can find a compiled version here) even with the hightened standards.

Like said above, you would want to check the federal website for recalls (there were only 3) and see if they were done. Other than that, follow your owners manual's maintenance guidelines and it should last you a long time.
