I'm a fan of changing cheaper filters more often.
Yes, agreed... This is a very expensive, high quality filter. 5,000 miles on it... would it still have been good another 5,000 miles.. maybe more than that?
probably, but I wouldn't want to experiment on my own vehicle
I’m just looking for answers, guy. 😆
Try it! You said you want to swap the engine anyway. However, what works on one vehicle , might not work on another.
Ah! I see.
I’m sorry, did I hear that right? You’ve been using the same oil filter since the last 115,000 miles?
😆 the same type, pretty much. Every 5,000 or so miles, I’d change my oil (synthetic blend and around 90,000 onward, full synthetic) and a Motorcraft oil filter. THEN, at 110,000, I switched to Amsoil signature series and their 25,000 mile oil filter. But I changed it out at 5,000 miles JUST THIS TIME. Incase it was full of sludge. Apparently it wasn’t! 😆
So what do you think? Could I have kept running it, no problem?
That’s a million dollar question! Me personally, I’d change it preemptively rather than waiting too long & potentially ruining my engine.
Here’s what Scotty has to say -
I think most good quality oil filters should manage to make it to 10-15,000 miles easily. However, in my book, that’s still too long. I change my oil filter along with the engine oil.
How about in an engine with 115,000 miles and prior to 110,000 miles, had cheaper oil in it and probably has carbon from it, coming off because im now using 100% synthetic oil?
If you’re curious, have the oil filter scientifically analysed by a laboratory.
I’m just wondering what would define a “clogged” filter.
I guess when you see large chunks of debris within the pleats of the cartridge, which are bad enough to cause a drastic restriction of the oil flowing through the filter.
Does the filter in my video look clogged?
Nope. Not clogged to cause any restriction, in my opinion. But like I said, if you want hard numbers, you have to have it examined by professionals. I can only eyeball it.
Does Blackstone Labs check filters?
If you’re referring to these guys, it seems like they do - https://www.blackstone-labs.com/oil-filter-testing/
Yes! Thanks
No worries.
