I have a 2004 F150 with 160k miles with the 5.4 liter engine. When I fill it up with gas it takes forever because the pump keeps shutting off. I know it has something to do with the vent lines or evap canister, but how do I tell which is the problem? And what is the best way to fix it?
With my 5.5 V8, I never managed to get a full tank before I figured out that one should turn that big engine off before tanking - otherwise the fuel gets consumed quicker than filled in /joking/ 🙂
My 86 Chevy C10 has the same issue. I found out that the bend in the filler neck causes the fuel to splash back onto the fuel dispenser nozzle, which set off a sensor. I started putting the nozzle in and giving it a little twist so it is facing towards that bend a bit more and that does the trick. So it might not be anything wrong with the truck at all
