  1. I just bought a 97 Chevy Silverado 1500.. the brakes are soft! Really soft! I already checked the lines going into all 4 tires. No leaks. I see no leaks on any of the lines. I'm guessing master cylinder? And second, I have blinkers, tail lights, head lights etc.. but no brake lights? What can I do?

Probably busted the brake light switch pushing on the brakes too hard to get it to stop. The master cylinder is probably bad. Change it and make sure you bleed the brakes FULLY. Make sure there are no leaks after the repair.

I had a chevy that the brake switch would shift, slide in the holder, if I hit brakes too hard. I reached down, moved the switch up and learned not to hit brakes so hard. It was a brake switch adjustment and driver adjustment.

Yes, For the brake issue, start with changing the master cylinder. For the brake issue, check the brake switch close to the brake pedal.

Could well need a master cylinder, but I would bleed the brakes first to make sure there is no air in the system.
