I'm in the shopping market for a used car and the cars that have caught my attention are a 2015 Ford explorer xlt automatic transmission v6 with 90k miles and the other is a 2015 chevrolet impala ltz automatic transmission v6 flex fuel with 80k miles. What's your take on these cars?
just a hint: you will get more answers if you use a more descriptive title, instead of just "need help". Everyone who comes here needs help. 😉
I would avoid both: the 2015 Explorer XLT comes with the 3.5L Duratec V6 which has the water pump driven by timing chain. Due to its location (behind timing cover), to get to the water pump you have to essentially take apart the engine which will get really expensive. Also, worst case if it leaks it can potentially take out the entire engine. It was a poor design on Ford’s part, unless they designed the water pump to last ‘forever’ (which they didn’t). As for the Impala, it was not well made and with GM and higher mileage electrical problems become a headache to resolve.
Neither to just be honest with you. The Impala has a laundry list of issues anyone here can tell you about, and the Explorer isn't much better.
For a short period of time maybe. If you plan to keep the car for some hundred thousand miles, definitely not.
You will regret your purchase on both.
